Important if you have the previously released Demo and/or standalone Islands:
As before, this is a complete new package! Please make sure you have removed all previously installed CWR² Mod folders!
All of the previously released files are no more required or horribly outdated, causing compatibility issues with the new version.
Everything you need to play is in below Downloads, there is no need to keep any of the old files.

Please note: Both ArmA2 and Operation Arrowhead (Combined Operations) are required to use CWR²!

Quick Install Instructions:
1) Remove all previous CWR² content (if present)
2) Remove all previous SP/MP Missions and the Demo campaign
3) Download and install CWR² v1.02a
4) Download and install CWR² v1.02a Updates/Patches
5) Download and install the optional content if wanted

To install CWR², just open the distribution .zip files and copy the included folder to your ArmA2 installation. A very simple task everyone should be able to do when he knows how to switch on a computer. 😉
There should be no question to overwrite files when extracting/copying the files. If there are any, you did something wrong.

For a more detailed description on how to install Mods see this page.

See the included PDF files in the CWR² Documentation folder for install instructions and licensing.
Below links are the only official CWR² Download Mirrors. We can not guarantee that Downloads from other sources than the ones below are up to date or genuine.

well, in theory yes. but while it was relatively easy in the old days, it is a giant task in arma2 because alone the terrain texture file would be huge, and i mean really huge.
depending on how bored the terrain guys are, we might be crazy enough to try it. but i really can’t promise anything here. if we do it – and succeed you read about it here!

(I don’t suppose there’s any way of getting the original “Keiso” wristwatch in the game is there? I found the image files years back in the original CWR mod for ARMA but could never figure out how to replace the new watch)

    • W0lle on December 23, 2014 at 01:33 said:

Good point. I’m not sure if there’s an easy way to replace it though. In ArmA eventually the good old texture was still used in so it was in CWR. It’s probably a bit tricky but if it’s possible, we might change it.

Hey guys, thanks for this amazing mod! I’m currently playing the campaign and ran into a problem. I’m not sure where to post this bug.

Currently I’m playing the “camping” mission. When we arrive in the town we are ordered to go on a patrol with the sergeant. However, the other guys can’t get in the jeep. When I exit I noticed that I can walk through the car, so the vehicle seems glitched. I’m playing this with ACE as well.

I left my mail address, so in case you read this and need more info just contact me.

Hey W0lle. For some reason when I downloaded CWR2 and all the addons with Play withSIX for some reason it loads them but none of the campaigns and missions show up. Any idea as to what could be causing that?

    • W0lle on February 26, 2015 at 21:59 said:

I’m not sure if withSix has the latest versions of the Mod at all. I suggest you grab the files from this site, or some alternative mirrors and copy the Modfolders manually into your ArmA2 installation. It’s not very hard after all, especially since you have the folders created by withSix. Just make sure you overwrite all pbo files with the ones from the archives.

Nope, no further plans for more Expansions. At some point you have to come to an end. Never say never though, who knows what the future brings. 🙂

Hello authors! Thanks for your great work!
Here’s a small bug report for the main CWR2 v.1.01:
    1) Steering wheel of the “Sports car” turns in the wrong (opposite) direction;
    2) “Sports car (red)” – lamps of headlights blocked by some object;
    3) “UAZ-451” – rear lights are almost not seen at night;
    4) “T-64” – no “driver out” anim; gunner’s projector lamp is absent;
    5) “T-64BV” – same as “T-64” + headlight beam is on the wrong side (beam on the left, lamp on the right).
    Same issues for T-72A/B.
    6) Add “Tank garage/Ammo garage” object from OFP/CWR1 objects.

    Gruß Thunderstrike

  • CWR2_PR on March 16, 2015 at 13:32 said:

Sports cars issues should be fixed now.
VDV rear lights too. Not sure about the interior, that’s something Stagler must do.

The T-64/T-72 driver not being able to turn out is on purpose. Because when the barrel is pointing directly forward and is not raised, the drivers head is inside the barrel. AFAIK it is in reality too, at least in the pictures I checked the turret/barrel is always turned/raised when driver is out.

The “tank garage” should be in Mikero’s editor update which comes with CWR². Eventually it has a different name now.

UAZ-451 we take a look asap.

    Thanks for the reports!

  • Fulcrum86 on March 18, 2015 at 17:32 said:

Ok, many thanks! Please don’t forget about mentioned T-64/T-72 light issues.

T-64/T-72 driver turn out issue is easy to fix – just include the “Barrel right and up” animation from the Dractuym’s T-72B/BA pack ( It is one of three animations included in this pack – other two are “Main gun reloading” (barrel moves up and down when gun is reloading as it is in reality with Soviet/Russian tanks) and “Driver get in” animation which is also much more realistic than the default anim. I reckon you can include all 3 in CWR2 and maybe not even ask for special permission cause these anims are just several additional lines in config and a few script files… But it is at your discretion. At least “Barrel right and up” is just several lines in condig and you can include it without permission for sure.

  • Fulcrum86 on March 18, 2015 at 17:36 said:

And… You can also look at reactive armor implemented in that pack and changing tactical numbers… and somehow include it in CWR2;)

No. It was planned but in the end it would have been way too much work to make the missions MP compatible. Not to speak about the ones where you play alone, like in “Saboteur” or “Maverick”.

I have a suggestion for your next project. I was wondering if you can make a World war 2 mod that is a prequel to Cold War rearmed. The story line can be how Nazi Germany as occupied Everon, Maldren, Nogova and Kolgajev and that you play both the Allied and Soviets in the liberation of the islands. I think General Guba can be a playable character as a private in the soviet army. What do you guys think?

I’ve got problem with CWR 2 and JSRS 1.5. First of all i cannot spawn in editor BMP with ZU-23 instead of turret, and there is no glock model so i receive errors. I installed JSRS compatibility patch and problem still persists. Did you made Russian and FIA armored vehicles on your own? BMP-1 have wrong sights, T-80 have sights of T-72 which is wrong as well, BMP-2 have right sights. T-64 “sits” too high – area between road wheels and side skirts should be minimal – tank would look more natural – T-64 should have same sights as T-80. For more info reply email, i’ll sent you more info, Mod wihtout those bugs would be the best Arma 2 mod.

    • CWR2_PR on August 4, 2015 at 13:02 said:

JSRS and the actual CWR² Version are most probably no more compatible. There has been so much stuff added since the last cooperation so the configs in that “compatibility patch” are simply outdated. Please use CWR² without any third party Mods.
The models and sights are as they are. This Mod is about bringing back the original OFP back to ArmA2, not about realism. So your “bugs” are no bugs but features. 🙂

first i want thank you for this mod 🙂

I have some problems with running it… If I copy it to OA it show me some errors about BTR90 and some bizon problem. If I copy it into A2 folder – it show me in right corner Arma2 CWR2, but in campaigns it doesn´t show. Only Red Harvest and EW. “Expansions” link doesn´t work 😀

Can you help? I want to feel young and play your great job 🙂 TY

    • CWR2_PR on August 16, 2015 at 23:32 said:

You need ArmA2 as well. Just OA isn’t enough because some files/assets from ArmA2 are used, like Bizon and BTR-90.

The campaigns should show up when you have extracted the “Campaigns” folder from the archive into your ArmA2 installation. But it’s possible that they don’t show up because of the missing ArmA2 files.

      • Dean on August 31, 2015 at 11:04 said:

Got the exact same problem. I have ARMA 2, OA, DLCs installed. They all run fine.

As soon as I try to launch ARMA2 with the CWR2 mod I get the exact same error message. This is the only mod that does this. Not sure why as I used to use this mod on a previous Windows install and never encountered this issue.

Not sure what else to do.

I am launching the game through Steam using ARMA2:OA (which used to be CO) but now they are all combined.

    Hello, authors!
If you find time for another update, please consider following issues:
    -BRDM-2: steering wheel is not working;
    -UAZ-451: rear red lights are not seen at night;
    -T-64: gunner’s projector light is absent (although its beam is present);
-T-64BV: same with the gunner’s projector; right headlight is shining instead of left (because beam comes from left headlight).

    What should I do?

    • W0lle on December 1, 2015 at 21:37 said:

Sorry for the long delay, been too busy with preparing the new version. 🙂

As the documentation and the download page says: You need both ArmA2 and Operation Arrowhead (aka Combined Operations) to run CWR². Only ArmA2 or Operation Arrowhead is not enough!
The Bizon rifle is only included in ArmA2 so I presume you run only Operation Arrowhead. It may suck but you need to get ArmA2 as well.

Hey, i have a couple of problems i installed CWR2 after not playing it for about a year. I have a problem, most skins for weapons have been changed to some random low detail weapons. The AK sights dont even look like ak sights, looks like a 1999 model of an ak. Also the sounds are changed. Is this a bug or its meant to be this way, because if it was meant to be this way im going to older versions.

    • W0lle on January 11, 2016 at 19:59 said:

The textures for weapons have been changed yes, AKs and M16s are now using the models and textures from Robert Hammers weapon packs. With 2048×2048 px resolution they are anything but low detail. The AK sights look pretty much like AK sights here, they are the same as in Robert Hammers packs. And to my knowledge, no one complained about them in all the years. No idea what RH is using as optics for his AKs though and to be honest, I don’t care at all because CWR² never was supposed to be some hyper-realistic Modification.
And yes, the sounds have changed as well now finally using the last pieces of the donation Lord Jarhead gave me years ago.

You are free to use the old versions if you still have them, that’s your choice. Just keep in mind that:
      1) There won’t be any more updates for old versions
      2) Everything that is released in the future is no more compatible with 1.01
      3) I do not provide any sort of support for versions below 1.02

  • Milos on January 11, 2016 at 22:37 said:

Ok i see, thanks for responding Wolle. Would you be interested in making an alternative weapon pack, consisting of old models, which had the right shape and sights?
Because look man, i screenshoted, these are the new weapons, they honestly look like what kids would imagine weapons would look like irl. There was no point in changing the way default weapons looked, unless you were going for ACE mod weapons, in which case that would be awesome because they are a step up. You should have kept the previous models or went with ACE. Just my opinion.

Anyway,if you decide to make the alternative pack, and you want better sounds for the mod , i can make them , we can work together on it, im tired of the same old jsrs/default combo, and can make a lot better sounds, i already have some. Hope to hear from you.

    • W0lle on January 12, 2016 at 00:33 said:

I changed the weapons because I like them. This is my Mod, I do with it what I want. And if I add a pink PKM just for the heck of it. 🙂

No, I will not change or add anything anymore. Because even if I would change the sounds and weapons just for you, someone else will come and demand even other sounds or weapons. And then? Maybe I should create separate CWR² Mod for everyone? How about ten CWR² Mods, or fifteen? No problem eh, I mean this one Mod was made in like nothing.

      Some people, really…

      • LaCroix73 on January 12, 2016 at 06:47 said:

Does it? The SKS looks like this since it was added. AK-47 and AK-74 are looking great and so does the M14. And that is the only thing that matters because I make this Mod for myself and not to please the community.

Really, stop the complaining about stuff given to you for free. Maybe it’s really time to stop sharing the Mod and keep it just for myself…

Regarding official mirrors: should I consider Play WithSIX and official one? Despite the app’s terrible clunkiness and somewhat annoying bugs I must admit that all in all it’s quite useful since you don’t need to download everything “manually”.

Anyway – keep up the good work W0lle, I really wish that CWR2 was an officially supported by BIS. Or… perhaps better it isn’t? 😉

    • W0lle on January 12, 2016 at 13:16 said:

I don’t know what CWR² version is hosted at Six. Since that thing isn’t mentioned here at all anymore, I would say it’s safe to say that Six is not official.
Look, it’s indeed easier to maintain the Mod using that. But it’s not easier for me to make sure the very latest updates are hosted everywhere.

And as for BIS supporting me: Oh my god, then the Mod would be even more bug ridden as it already is. They probably would have patched it to death by now. 😀

CWR² never was about realism. Not even close to it. So it’s totally irrelevant if the Robert Hammer AKs look ‘unreal’.
Also, and that’s even more important: No one ever promised a super-realistic Soviet Army Simulation (or US Army for that matter).
If you want a proper Soviet Army Mod, go ahead and make your own. BI released all A2 models, and the tools required are there too.

I, and many other people, worked almost 8 years on this to get you something to play with for free. And all that comes back is whining.
Really, and not meant offensive, but I’m slowly getting tired of all the Russians coming here and complain about weapons and sounds which are ‘ugly’ or ‘unrealistic’.
In the future, all comments about ‘unrealistic’ and ‘ugly’ content are simply removed.

    B) Release maps as stand-alone versions to A3. Most of A2 maps works in A3 Eden-editor and CWR2 maps are my favorite ones due original buildings.

    – Please don’t get angry due questining about A3-version, loved CWR2 a lot but A3 Eden-editor is very good and makes mission creating very enjoyable and possibles even better missions than before.

CWR² is now only me. And I don’t care about that Alpha 3 crap which target audience is obviously the ‘Life Simulation’ crowd.

But the most important thing is this: A team of almost a dozen people needed 8 years to port CWR from A1 to A2. Now go and figure how long it would take to port the stuff properly over to A3. And with properly I mean not just making it usable but using all the features from A3. By the time it would be in a playable state, the Bohemians released Alpha 4 which probably plays in space then. 🙂

I doubt that this ‘Eden Editor’ – whatever that is – will make better missions. Because it’s not the editor that makes missions but creative minds. And BI was very effective to piss off most of the talented and creative people.

Eventually, maybe someone from the old team who’s into Alpha 3 now will continue this. I definitely will not even think about it.

Evening! You’re right!it’s only your privilege….maybe you can give the link with v1.01.2….
        please don’t be offended

        • W0lle on January 17, 2016 at 23:02 said:

I’m not offended Roman, it just sucks when you spend almost every free minute on this Mod and then people only complain.

I understand that AKs are important for you guys. And when I replaced them I wasn’t aware that the ones from RH are ‘modernized’ ones. Going back is no option either though cause it would only create a mess cause models, textures and material files must be replaced and everything tested again.

I don’t have the files/links for v1.01 anymore. Eventually there are some sites who still have the old files somewhere.
But I suggest not to go back because chances are very good that you run into missions making use of the many new things in 1.02.
What I can offer to someone who can/want do it: I provide the old AK p3d files and textures and whoever wants to do it is creating a ‘replacement addon’ for CWR2.

          • W0lle on January 20, 2016 at 05:02 said:

I think I have “invented” a solution which is even better than giving the models away (not that I won’t do it), just needs some more testing. So, stay tuned. 😉

    @W0lle & CWR2 Team

Thank you and the CWR2 team for releasing this and for giving so much of your time. It’s f*ckin’ awesome. It plays OFP just like i remember it all those years ago. For that alone taking me back to those endless days and nights playing SP/MP I thank you all. Having a blast. 😉

Apologies, i think i’m right in noticing you are the CWR2 team. Thanks anyway mate, luvs ya for keeping this alive. RESPECT! 😉

By now yes, I’m CWR² and CWR² is me. 🙂
However without the awesome team behind me in the past 8 years, this Mod would not have been possible at all.

I have been attempting to host CWR2 so for without success. I have a spare Dell 2950 Gen 3 server with 32 gig ram. I have not found a detailed install procedure. I have installed Arma2 and Arm2OA as is from Steam. Where does the CWR2 files go? To the Arma2 or Arma2OA? Im at the ground level. I have installed TADST and Arma Launcher and pbo reader / editor. Please pardon my noobness. Will I need a server.cfg and config.cfg settings for this?
Anyone have a detailed tutorial or procedure?

Any help or detail wouild be greatly appreciated.

Please use our forum thread at armaholic, or any other ArmA related forum for such questions. The comments here are not supposed to provide support.

Hosting CWR2 is no different than hosting any other ArmA2 Modification. No idea how it is with Steam, but if I must guess I would say the @CWR2_V102 Mod folder goes to where OA is installed.
But again, such questions are better asked at places where there are more people around.

Digging the new addons! The more armies the better! Do you have any plans about adding in more Warsaw pact countries?

    • W0lle on January 22, 2016 at 13:30 said:

No plans for any further Expansions. There is enough to play with now and it takes more time to add more stuff than I have now.
If there would be anything added, it would be Mini-Expansions like the recently released “Island Defense Forces” where only units and eventually rifles are included.
Definitely no more new tanks, planes or helicopters.

That said: Everyone is free to make Expansions for CWR² on its own and release it. 🙂

on playwithsix the main cwr2 mod is broken, get a error that says

“Oops! Loading failed 🙁 Unknown Error: Exception of type ‘SN.withSIX.Api.Models.Exceptions.ArchivedException’ was thrown. RequestID: 91612041-3e3c-4e7e-b8b5-60da4c6109c3”

    can you fix?

    • W0lle on February 1, 2016 at 12:48 said:

I requested the removal of CWR² from withSIX which is why you get this error.

Please use the official download links on this site. I have no time to deal with additional problems caused by third party distributors.

And yes, CWR² will be available on withSIX again. But not now.

      • Chris on February 5, 2016 at 05:38 said:

Is there any ETA on when it’ll be back on withSIX? It’s easier to have it all on withSIX since the mods auto-update and it’s easier to modify/remove/etc.

        • W0lle on February 10, 2016 at 01:32 said:

When I’m completely done with the Mod so no more updates are required. Not anytime soon. After all, it’s not that hard to copy some folder from the distribution archive over to your ArmA2 installation.

Hey w0lle, i read up in the comments that you are considering bringing the old ak’s back, if you need any help let us know. I absolutely love you man, for keeping the memories of the old OFP days alive and giving us something amazing as CWR2, i would seriously pay for this if it was a standalone. Thank you W0lle, the modder with golden hands. 😀

    • W0lle on February 10, 2016 at 01:31 said:

The old AKs are already included in Patch 2. Just make sure you read the included documentation on how to replace them. Easy though, just replace the default cwr2_weaponcfg.pbo with the “special” one in the “Old AK Rifles” Folder.

  • John on February 26, 2016 at 19:52 said:

So is the patch 2 on armaholic because i redownloaded cwr yesterday(the folder had errors) and i dont see a special ak folder

2 / Can we put RESISTANCE campaigns and COLD WAR CRISIS in FRENCH ???

    Thank you

  • droidekafan on April 13, 2016 at 19:09 said:

I cannot play this. I installed everything, but when I try to load it says that it relies on downloadable content that has been deleted. I look in the files for the mod, and the files is there but the game does not see it. I put this into the ARMA II OA folder.

  • Overlord on April 22, 2016 at 23:26 said:

So what do I need of this for my server W0??

Sander seems NOT keeping me up to date (probably occupied keeping his bloodº% down) 😉

That said, CWR2 is, again, the best mod ever made for AA2, or IMO to any BIS game ever.
You guys have just nailed the essential, utilizing the power of the engine and getting rid of most bugs in OFP. Taking advantage of AA2 engine, but not falling in the trap of “look what we can do”.
Hi BIS, I know you’re reading this, take a hint!

    • W0lle on May 13, 2016 at 19:27 said:

Sorry to hear that. The zip file is okay, but sometimes such huge zip archives can cause problems. Try downloading the file from armaholic, there it is a ~5GB 7zip file. Or if you haven’t already, try to open the zip file with Winzip which I used to create the zip file.

Hello. I’m having a slight problem. Whenever I try to play the first mission of the CWC campaign (Training) the cutscene plays, and then i see an error message : “You cannot play/edit this mission ; it’s dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted.cwr2_UH60” and it replays the cutscene again. Also when i exit the mission, it says the same thing except the last part which is replaced with cwr2_UAZ. Please advise, over.

Hey I don’t know if you guys still monitor, but the AK-47 when using the old rifles config,,,has a muzzle flash issue..

    • W0lle on September 25, 2016 at 13:54 said:

I’m in the middle of a huge move across Germany but yes I of course have a look here whenever I get a chance.
The ‘old rifles’ config will be obsolete in the next big update anyway cause I use the old AK rifles again in CWR². Only thing is that I can’t tell when the update will be ready. 😉

    Hello, W0lle,
I’ve faced with some funny situation with the BW/NVA expansions while making an SP: just imagine, for example, a csene of a Volksarmee officer interrogating a Bundeswehr prisoner – while speaking different languages…

Is it is possible to make the NVA speaking English instead of Russian?
The CWR’s BW and NVA expansions simulate people of the same nationality with different uniforms – they are supposed to understand each other. And none of them is normally expected to understand Russians.

    • W0lle on November 8, 2016 at 01:36 said:

That’s actually a very good point. Will change the NVA language to english asap.

The mix of languages is something weird, many months back we noticed that even within the same faction they speak a wild mix of English and Czech lol. Eventually it has been fixed at some point, at least no one ever complained about it.

  • Batteriefuhrer 1/288 on October 27, 2016 at 09:46 said:

There’s a language mix in the Volksarmee fraction, some units respond in Russian, others – in English.

Holy crap how did I not know about this mod?

Played through the first half of the CWC campaign, and it’s almost exactly what I hoped for!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project – Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis was my favourite game as a kid
